PDFcreator as a network printer and service / service with Windows Server
Created by Solip on Thursday 15 April 2010
PDFcreator acts like a PDF printer on the network and provides for the purpose of extracting a server installation. The current version 0.99 is for Windows 2000 to Windows 7 including the server versions up to 2008 and including 64 bits. There are minor restrictions on the server operation. This should be in the upcoming version of needs further elaboration.
This article describes the organization as a service on Windows Server 2003 and the subsequent connection of clients including Windows 7 64 bit.
First, the original installer to download and install on the server - Download
To select the server installation. Also be careful when installing the toolbar does not install with.
Something has no place on a server at all. ![]()
Following the installation then share the printer created in the Control Panel.
Furthermore PDFcreator start and adjust the settings. For network printing the automatic saving is required. Here, a directory can be set on a local hard disk, which is at system startup before the login already available (not an encrypted drive, not a UNC path).
Adapt is the naming of the files - client-user computer-dateTime is very useful, for example.
PDFcreator also immortalized in the Startup folder - the entry must be removed.
PDFcreator to establish as a service, we need the resource kit tools. Here is the download for Windows Server 2003. The tools can also be used on other systems.
From that, the program is needed srvany.exe, which is copied into the directory of PDcreator (eg c: \ Program Files \ PDFCreator).
Then install the service using two commands on the command line - cmd file download.
sc create "PDFCreator" start= auto binpath= "c:\Programme\PDFCreator\srvany.exe"
sc description "PDFCreator" "Dienst um PDF Dateien im Netzwerk zu drucken"
And by entry in the registry, you tell the service to run with what he is - . reg file download
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PDFCreator\Parameters]
"Application"="C:\\Programme\\PDFCreator\\PDFCreator.exe"
If you want to change the user under which the service is running, the service is to open the Control Panel and adjust accordingly. Default is the local system account without interactivity, what this constellation (local drive) works immediately. When another user, make sure that this directory has write permissions for the files. Furthermore, the user must be notified and provided with their own settings in PDFcreator.
The service should now be able to start. And a first pressure from the same computer should yield the desired PDF.
To connect the printer with other computers on the network, please note that installing the printer driver which only brings to the target system are necessary. In the case of Windows Server 2003 32 bit can be connected only 32-bit clients immediately. For 64 bit systems, it is currently necessary to install PDFcreator on the client computer to connect the printer and then uninstall the program again. This should improve from version 1.0 behavior, so the server directly holds different drivers.

Hello,
The instructions are very good. The only thing that stopped me is that I had a sub-folder in the registry parameter. No idea why, until I found out (with the right values) to the folder where you get pure lasted.
And it's important that it enters service in the PDFcreator administrator + password.
For all:
go to HKLM \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ PDFCreator
Add a key "Parameters" under PDFCreator
in "Parameters", add a string (REG_SZ) value "Application"
assign the following to "Application"
"C: \ Program Files \ PDFCreator \ PDFCreator.exe"
(Or wherever you installed the program)
